People often ask what technologies we are using to achieve this. The reply always is that technology should be chosen in function of the project. But we must admit that on occasions we complied with our customers' requests to work with the technologies that they happen to have available at the time. (But we only did so when a feasibility analysis confirmed that it still made sense to do so).
Because some people insist on knowing what technologies we have worked with, we'll mention the following: HTML, DHTML, XML (for data exchange), JavaScript, CSS, ASP (VBS, Jscript), ASP.NET, PHP, AJAX, ...
But as the world of web services is constantly changing, so does the list of available technologies.
MySQL often is the preferred solution.
When it comes to databases, we usually work with either Visual Foxpro, or MySQL, because 1) they are robust and reliable, and 2) they are flexible in their licensing requirements.
Upon customers' request we have also done ASP projects involving Microsoft SQL Server.
